The following are some examples of common orthodontic problems.  These cases are from our own collection of treated cases and we greatly appreciate the support of our patients in letting us display their images in demonstration of what we have been able to achieve with their co-operation.

Class I Crowding

This patient presented with concerns about her crooked teeth.  Treatment consisted of upper and lower fixed braces in conjunction with the extraction of two upper premolar teeth to straighten the crowded teeth.

Class 1 Crowding

Class I Spacing

This patient presented with concerns relating to the large gaps in her upper teeth.  Treatment used was upper fixed braces to close the large gaps and reduce the prominence of the upper front teeth.

Class 1 Spacing

Class II division 1 - Without Extractions

This patient presented with concerns about the prominence of her upper front teeth. This treatment was undertaken using fixed braces on the upper and lower teeth.

Class II Division 1 non-exo

Class II division 1 - With Extractions

This patient presented with concerns relating to crowded teeth and his upper front teeth stuck out. Treatment was upper and lower fixed braces with the extraction of 2 upper premolars.

Class II Division 1 with extractions

Class II division 2 - Without Extractions

This patient presented with concerns relating to crowding and a gummy smile.

This patient was treated using braces on both the upper and lower teeth.  The upper front teeth were elevated upwards to eliminate a gummy smile resulting in a very pleasing arrangement of the teeth and smile.

Class II division 2 non-extraction

Class II division 2 - With Extractions

This patient presented with concerns about her deep overbite. The treatment was undertaken using fixed appliances (braces) on the upper and lower teeth.  Four premolar teeth were extracted prior to starting treatment.  A normal “overbite” (or ‘vertical overlap’) exists when the upper incisors overlap approximately 1/3 of the lower incisors.  This patient had over 100% overlap of her lower incisors at the beginning of treatment.

Class II division 2 with extractions

Class III - Without Extractions

This patient presented with concerns about his crooked teeth.  Treatment used was upper and lower fixed braces, the upper arch was expanded to correct the crossbite and cheek teeth.

Class III without extractions

Class III - With Extractions

This patient presented with concerns about her crossbite and crowding.  Treatment used was upper and lower fixed braces, with the extraction of 2 upper teeth.  The upper teeth now bite over the lower front teeth, in a normal occlusion.

Class III with extractions

Anterior Openbite

This patient presented with concerns about the prominence of her upper front teeth and the openbite.  The treatment was undertaken using fixed appliances (braces) on the upper and lower teeth.  The movement of teeth in adult patients occurs in exactly the same way as in children but generally takes a little longer.  Orthodontic treatment in adult patients is becoming more popular as adults realise that they can enjoy the benefits of attractive straight teeth.

Anterior Openbite

Impacted Canine (eye tooth)

This patient presented with concerns about the displaced upper eye tooth.  The treatment was undertaken using upper and lower braces with the exposure of the unerupted upper right eye tooth and the extraction of 4 premolars.  The upper right eye tooth was brought down into alignment with the arch.
